Scope

The activities on DEMO Design Coordination aim at establishing a common basis for DEMO design, including i) holding of seminars and other meetings, ii) provision and exchange of scientific and technical information, and iii) DEMO conceptual design activities.

Progress of DEMO Design Activities (DDA) during 2017 by JA and EU were reported: Breeding Blanket design, DEMO Physics Basis, Divertor and Power Exhaust, Update on systems code study, Safety, Superconducting Magnet, Remote Maintenance, Plant design, Balance of Plant and Tritium process.
DEMO R&D: Progress on JET-ILW PWI analysis and Material Handbook was reported.
Discussion on future collaborative activities for the BA DEMO DDA phase II started.

Progress of DDA joint works was reported: (i) Study on shielding, water activation for Breeding blanket, (ii) Tritium permeation for DEMO plant, (iii) Plasma physics: ELM mitigation strategy, (iv) Divertor: comparison of divertor simulations in EU DEMO conditions, (v) System code: Comparison study of the divertor model in EU system code to SONIC., (vi) Magnets: comparison of magnets design.
DEMO R&D: Progress on JET-ILW PWI analysis and Material Handbook was reported. The final report schedule of JET-ILW PWI analysis was also proposed.
Plan for the DDA final report was proposed and discussed.
Topics and Milestones of DEMO DDA in BA Phase II were proposed and discussed.

Achievements

DEMO design activity was summarized in the 1st intermediate report in February 2015 and the 2nd intermediate report in February 2017, respectively.
Herein, scientific and technological achievements only published in academic papers and presented in the international conferences and symposiums in 2012-2018 are presented.
