  IFERC HPC follow-up working group

After Helios operation, an “IFERC HPC follow-up working group” was set-up in 2017 in order 1) to address the topics to share experience and best practices in the design and operation of HPC centres for fusion users and in the usage of such centres by fusion users in Europe and in Japan, 2) to prepare/monitor “BA simulation projects” by providing various computer resource, and 3) to consider the possibility and to provide input for the joint procurement of a supercomputer in the context of BA Phase II based on the expected lifetime of the current systems in EU and in JA.

Joint EU-JA HPC Allocation Committee (JAC)

In order to handle the “Joint EU-JA HPC simulation projects” (see below), the Joint EU-JA HPC Allocation Committee (JAC) was originally set-up in Dec. 2018, whose role was to submit the call for proposal, to select the projects, to allocate the CPU time to the selected project and to evaluate the users reports as was described in Terms of Reference (ToR). After the “Joint EU-JA HPC simulation projects”, JAC continues its role for “BA simulation projects in the 1st cycle (in Fiscal Year 2020)” and “BA simulation projects in the 2nd cycle (in Fiscal Year 2021)” under the consultation with IFERC HPC follow-up working group.
