Achievements of CSC

Achievements obtained in BA Phase II (from April 2020) and those obtained in BA Phase I (from June 2007 to March 2020) are separately shown hereafter.

The scope of the CSC activity is to provide high performance computer (HPC) resources suitable for JA and EU scientists and to foster the efficient usage of these resources to advance high priority simulation studies for ITER, JT-60SA and fusion reactor in general (e.g. DEMO). For such a purpose, the HPC resources are mainly provided through the dedication of 50% of the JFRS-1 computer resources to BA simulation projects, and these are complemented by a fraction of the EUROfusion accelerated resources; Marconi 100 located in Europe. By using those resources, the following peer-reviewed papers related to issues on fusion development are published in the major journals.

Achievements of CSC activity were summarized in the “IFERC-CSC Final Report” published in October 2017. As shown in the final report, Helios supercomputer was operated with a very high availability since the beginning of the operation and with a very high usage rate by the fusion community:

A large number of accumulated peer-reviewed papers (639 as of February 2017) were published in major scientific journals with a wide range of activities from plasma physics to reactor materials and technology as shown below. Note that the research fields are categorized as Linear, nonlinear and/or extended MHD (MHD), Fast particle physics (Fast Particles), Plasma turbulence and related transport processes (Turbulence), Edge physics (Edge), Heating and current drive (H & CD), Integrated modeling (Modeling), Reactor materials (Materials), Reactor technology (Technology) and Computational science (Comput).
